What is relationship training?

It’s all about the relationship we have with our horses and the one we want to have with out horses which in turn move into the rest of our lives as to understand about relationship training we have to understand that everyone of our actions effect the world around us, which means we have to have a certain level of awareness before we can truly communicate with horses.

Horses are great teachers; I have been a pupil for. Over 35yrs through me listening to the horses, I am able to pass on their teaching to other people that want to learn to listen, through my teaching I continue to learn, I feel very honoured to be given the chance to spend my time with these noble beasts.

In our technologically advanced world we tend to believe only what we can see, prove and explain, so we view animal - human communication as impossible or ludicrous. Many riders experience their horses doing exactly what the rider is thinking without any physical effect or verbal command, this is what I work on so horse and rider become one, When someone first comes to me they are two separate beings, with time and quite gentle learning they become one. I always work with the rider as well as the horse. I have some riders that come to me and say that they do not have a problem they just want to improve their riding which is fine but there always seems to be something, their horse spook, their horse does not stand still while they tack up, horse is not happy loading, horse is a bully if not to them to other horses, etc etc etc…….. I began to realize that this was a communication problem, the rider was not communicating in a way the horse could understand or it is because your horse is trying to tell you something in the only way he knows how (in his behaviour), we have to understand that a horse is a horse a flight animal and we are human a predator, it is up to us to learn to understand how a horse thinks and reacts and relate to others and his surroundings. This way the horse becomes predictable not unpredictable. It’s all about bringing the relationship into balance. Giving the horse what he wants and needs will give you what you want and need out of the relationship. Relationship training is not just about teaching it’s an attitude and belief system, it will release the spirit in you and your horse, when this happens it is truly a magical experience.
